Cloonkeehan Archie Diamond

The day was dry, calm and increasingly warm and sunny as the Clifden Show-grounds filled up with eager Connemara fans.  There were over 50 stallions, beautifully groomed and in top condition, even on this early Spring Sunday of the Connemara Pony Festival.

1 Teach Mor Knight, Paraic Folan

I am going to start by looking at the young newly- passed Stallions, giving some details on breeding and ownership, as you will not find these in the CPBS Database as yet.  As expected from recent

Connacht area inspections, the majority are Galway – Mayo –  Clare  bred and owned.   First up is Owner/Breeder Paraic Folan’s Teach Mor Knight, a 2009 dun, by Castle Knight out of the performance mare, Lishmar Lady Donna.  Has had lots of showing experience and is already a prolific prizewinner.

2 Nevins Ranger,Peter O’Malley

Next is the Peter O’Malley bred and owned Nevins Ranger, 4yrs. By Cloon-Eile Cashel X Rossaveal Princess (Windy;s Boy).  He behaved well on his first public outing.

Eileen;s Hero, Martin O;Sullivan

The dark bay 3yr. old Eileen’s Hero by Janus X Eileen’s Beauty (Abbeyleix Owen) was bred by Eileen Moran Conneely and is owned by Martin O’Sullivan.  He has already had show-ring successes.

Beech King, Val Noone

Val Noone’s Beech King by Monaghanstown Boy X Beech Girl, was bred by Patrick McCormack.  He has Village Boy and Smokey Duncan in his family tree, has been shown successfully and is currently being broken for riding.

Glencarrig Joe, John Minogue

Glencarrig Joe is another Janus progeny and is out of Glencarrig Fiona (Boden Park Finnard).  A 4yr. old he was bred by Padraic Curran and now belongs to John Minogue and has not yet been shown.

Doire Mhanaigh Cascade, Michael O’Neill

Breeder Michael O;Niall’s Doire Mhanaigh Cascade(Mountain Cascade X Doire Mhanaigh Pride) is a 3yr.old light grey and he is already showing jumping ability.

Banks Timber, Joe Burke

Banks Timber was bred by Jytte Mikklesen in Denmark.  His sire Teglstrup Duke traces back to Marble and his dam, Banks Square Do-Do ( by Grange Surf Sparrow) has bred prize-winners. He is owned by Seamus Hynds and was shown by Joe Burke.

Cloonkeehan Archie Diamond, Ryan Joyce

Ryan Joyce of Aran had a sea trip to make to Clifden from Inishmore Island, with his 4yr.old Cloonkeen Archie Diamond (Castleside Carrig X Grey Diamond.)  The Breeder is  Michael Tiernan.

Glencarrig Rocco, Clare Lacey

Glencarrig Rocco is a dark bay (alnost black) 3yr. old owned by Co. Laois pair Clare Lacy and Danny Flynn.  Bred by Ciaran Curran, he is by Glencarrig Prince X Mountross Colleen, and like his forebears, already a show-ring prizewinner.

Dolan Pete, Michelle Conroy

Dolan Pete’s sire, Dolan Mick took the Clifden Supreme back in ’06 and his dam is Katie Dolan Lass.  Cloonisle Cashel was a grandsire.  Dolan Pete was bred by Paddy Connolly and is owned and shown by Michelle Conroy, a 4thgeneration Connemara pony owner and grand-daughter of the famed Josie Conroy of Bunowen.

Callaghy Jim, John Minogue

Callaghy Jim (Laerkens Cascade Dawn X Callaghy Melissa) was bred by Sean Grogan in Co. Clare and is owned by John Minogue.  He is a light grey 3yr. old and stands at 145cms.

Errew Midnight Magic

Errew Midnight Magic is a striking dark dun – almost pure black – .by Maghera Fada Lad X Clover Valley.  Breeder is Mayo’s Janine Hoban and he is currently owned and for sale by Gabriel Murphy.

Maam King, Stephen Fahy

Maam King is a 4yr.old son of Maam Hill (by Dun Aengus) and is out of Clonkirk Kate.  East Galway bred by his owner Gerry Martin, he is shown by Stephen Fahy.

Dunloughan Warrior, Terence Sweeney

 Please let me know if this is correct.  Dunloughan warrior is listed in the parade catalogue as dun but my picture says grey !)  He is a 4yr. old by Frederiksminde Hazy Match X Bay Lass, bred by Carol Sweeney and owned by Terence Sweeney.

Colmcille Cashel, Joe Burke

Colmcille Cashel is a 3yr. old son of Currachmore Cashel and the dam is Silver Pearl.  Bred and owned by Eamon Burke, he is shown by Joe Burke.  Pic 18 Doonreaghan Marty.

Doonreaghan Marty, Noel Nee

Doonreaghan Marty a 3yr.old by Coolillaun Cushlawn  and out of Doonreaghan Star.  He has had many show-ring successes and is bred and owned by Mairtin Nee and shown by Noel Nee. Good to hear that showing success has not gone to his head and he is described in the catalogue as placid and kind natured !

19 Cashelbay Rocket, Robbie Fallon

Cashelbay Rocket (Cashelbay Cruise X Cashelbay Misty) is a dark grey 3yr. old bred, ownedf  and produced by Robbie and Barbara Fallon of the Cashelbay Pony Stud.  shown here by Robbie Fallon.  He has Ashfield Bobby Sparrow in his back pedigree.

Clegganbay Tower

And finally I can show you a photo. of the 3yr. old dun Clegganbay Tower (Carnabay Mirah X Redbridge Lady), carries the performance genes of Westside Mirah and Tulira Finn McCool in his pedigree.  Breeder is Michael Long and Brendan O’Flynn is now the owner.
We did not get suitable photos of all of these new young registered stallions, but if your ‘lad’  has been excluded please send a picture and it will be added in.
