Ridden Classes, Midlands ‘16
There were large numbers in many of the sixteen Performance Ridden and Working Hunter Classes For instance the Novice Ridden 4-5 yr. old first Class in Ring 3 sand area, had seventeen entries while the Sarah Miller Future Performance Pony competition had a grand total of 39 taking part in this three part competition which needed two Rings and 3 Judges. The Clifden High Performance Qualifiers had all of 21 entries. (My thanks go to organiser Lorli Higgins for these figures). Classes were more open this year also to encourage competitors to take part in several Classes. Now all Classes are not covered here but lets try to start near the beginning! Our first photo, from Class 24 for Novice Ridden Pony, shows Co. Derry’s Jackie Hockley’s Hazey Boy (Killaloe Buachaill Mór}, with her sister Lisa in the saddle, win the first Ridden pony prize of the day.
Due to the newly introduced Midlands Breeders Challenge which involved Performance Classes. Four of the day’s Ridden Classes came under the MCPB banner, the Novice pony, the Side Saddle, the Under 143cms. and Over 143cms. with generous prizes all round plus a Championship. In the Side Saddle Class Annie Kavanagh rode General Rossalougha (General Humbert) into First place. Annie was also to receive the highest points Rider Award before the day was out.
In the 143cms and Under Class it was Marjorie Hardiman riding Creganna Belle (Frederiksminde Hazy Match) Galway’s who was placed first, and she was followed into second place by her daughter Jane riding Venus (Garryhinch Finn).
The Over 143cms. Class was won by Aine Geoghegan riding Claire Lacey’s Currachmore Cashel stallion Lucky Rebel. Marjorie Hardiman’s Creggana Dandini (Cashelbay Prince) stood Second in this Class.
The MCPB Ridden Champion was Hazey Boy with Creganna Belle in Reserve.
Next up were the two International Performance Qualifying Classes for Claregalway on August 7th.
In the rider Under 16 Class the first pony pulled in by Welsh Judge Jamie Frost was Janet Williamson’s Kilpatrick Cascade (Moorland Snowy River). Aoife Connolly got the nod to ride in to 2nd place with Rosswood Little Lady (Knockillaree Tomás), ridden by Aoife Connolly.
The Over 16’s Ridden will be represented in Claregalway by Jacqui Freyne’s Drimcong Michael (Moy Hazy Cove) and by 2nd placed pony Pat Byrne’s Coolin Saoire (Coolin America) (Sorry no picture) The Judge was apparently so impressed by the quality presented to him that another 7of the 20 ponies competing were chosen from both qualifying Classes to qualify for the Performance Championships also.
