The sky colour was Mediterranean and the ponies looked magnificent in the ever-present sunshine at Galway County Show on Sunday last.  Sun hats and strawberries and cream were the order of the day as judges Sylvaine Galligan and  Jayne Maxwell worked their way through well-filled classes in the Connemara pony ring.   First we have some of the younger ponies.   The Judges found their winner in the Yearling Filly class in Tommy Sweeney’s Heather Aisling (Currachmore Cashel X Heather Star).

Atlantic Queen of Peace with Peadar Lydon

Moving to the  mature mares, where the judges had their work cut out to select a winner in the 10 – 15 years section, which looked like a beauty parade of former mare Champions.  Of the four Cloonisle Cashel mares in the Ring, three were top of the Class.  Atlantic Queen of Peace (Cloonisle Cashel X Atlantic Peace) headed the line-up for Esther Feeney’s Atlantic Pony Stud, with Jane Andrew’s Coral Misty Jane a close 2nd and Breda Horan’s  Kilmeen Jane a close third.  {See more pics. in the Galway Show Gallery in the sidebar under Pages).   Grace Murphy’s evergreen (now 23) Lakeside Lady Abbeyleix Dolphin X Kits Bay)  was in the ribbons once again in the older Mares Class.
