Inspections Moycullen & Spiddal May’12
Finally this Blog got to see some of the young crop of local fillies at Inspection day in Moycullen and Spiddal. The setting in Moycullen for the 17 pony candidates and owners was ideal. The spacious grounds and arenas of The Parks Cross country course, were set up in the last couple of years by local man Martin McDonagh who originally started out by building some Cross Country jumps in his field to cater for his four pony-mad children, gradually extending into his other fields and ending up with a course of over 50 fences of all varieties and sizes, and the venue for a recent successful Hunter Trials.
Most of these fillies for Inspection by the CPBS were still only 2yr.olds as is Patrick McGrath’s Hazelrock Flight. She is home-bred by Lucky Rebel X Hazelrock Smokey Native (by Gleann Rua Native).
The Curran brothers, who live locally with their families, had 6 fillies for inspection. We show here Glencarrig Jill by Bunowen Bobby. She is out of the Glencarrig Prince mare Glencarrig Ruby and she was shown for inspection by Katie Curran
Moycullen’s Carmel Canavan, daughter of Jimmy Canavan of Fernville Stud, has moved from home and is now breeding Connemaras under the Cloon View prefix. Her new residence is within a stone’s throw of Fernville and the Fernville stallion I Love You Melody is the sire of Carmels 3yr. old Cloon View Maya who is out of Fernville Heather.
Jimmy Mullaney had his 2 yr. old home-bred Lissroe Lorraine who is by Glencarrig Prince out of Proud Native (Loobeen Larry.
Mary Tierney from Inverin had brought her sister Aine’s 2 yr. old for Inspection. Western Lace Nestorina is by the Tierney family’s stallion Prince Nestor and out of Griffin Lady (Westside Mirah)
Hazelrock Reflection, aged 2, is by the McGrath’s own Lucky Rebel out of Smokey Baby (Prince of Thieves), pictured her with Kieran McGrath.
Gearoid Curran’s Flora Star is a 2yr old by Glencarrig Prince X Silver Star (Abbeyfort). Pic 9 Unknown by Knockillaree Tomás . 10 her or near top, Family with Bay filly.
SPIDDAL And so across the mountain bog to Spiddal.
The ponies were here for Inspection at Coláiste Connacht which is situated on the Galway side of Spiddal and there was fine space and parking here for all in attendance. This is the venue for the annual Spiddal show but today the Inspection team arrived to a rather rainy and windy venue.
However Inspectors Gil Glynn, Sean Dunne and Philip Scott with Dermot Power were able to avail of the slight shelter offered by the wall of one of the College’s old outbuildings
Daragh Waters was philosophical about the rain. He had wanted to acquire a Laerkens Cascade Dawn filly for some time and when the chance came he grabbed it. Lusnagh Beatrice is a 4yr old by Laerkens Cascade Dawn X Holiday Corrohue Robin (goes back to Robin Hood).
The angle of this pic is probably not the best but this 2yr. old Teach Mor Glory by Castle Knight X Brodella Lady of Glory stood out from the crowd. Her owner is local breeder Paraic Folen.
Colm and Maryann O’Toole from near Spiddal were glad the Judges approved their 2yr. old filly by Tullykyne Prince and out of a Murphy Rebel mare. {By now the rain was pelting down and it wasn’t always easy for this blog to get down all details in a soggy notebook so please help out if you have more detail on any pony. Please Email niamhodoc@eircom.net}
And last, This three yr. old was bought from her breeder Carraroe’s Tom Sullivan by returned emigre Sean Mc Dermot. She is by Moy Hazy Cove and her dam is Cliona Alainn (by Coosheen Storm Boy) It was now time for this blogger to beat a hasty retreat in out of the rain, so sadly failing to get any more pictures. See you.
