Very recently in February this year, the great Sillogue Darkie died suddenly in his stable. The 18 year old gelding was for many years one of the top Show-jumping Connemara ponies ever produced in Ireland.  By Ard Talisman X Coillcru Esmeralda, he was bred and trained by the Briscoe family in Co. Louth and was a firm favourite of the family as he jumped his way to stardom in Ireland and Europe.  An incredible performer,  he qualified  for Dublin eight years in a row with five different riders. Read on and see the Video.

Darkie qualified for the European Pony Championships  on at least four occasions and  was to win Bronze with Jessica Burke in 2007 and Team Silver in 2009 with Michael Duffy.  S

He accumulated well over a thousand SJAI points, winning countless Championships and was never out of the ribbons.

For Eamon and Ciaran Briscoe he was a pony in a million and will be very much missed by his owners, his young riders and by all who ever saw him in action.  I hope you will enjoy seeing again the 2009 video included here.  It appeared at that time in Niamh’s Weblog      https://ardcru.wordpress.com/update-on-sillogue-darkie/
